The original organ at St. Clement (taken before the current one was installed)

'This instrument was initially installed in 1942. Sixty years later, it was overdue for mechanical and tonal renovation.  The updated installation included chest actions, solid-state switching, a new, exposed Great Organ, and a new console. All pipework was revoiced, and new stops were added to the enclosed Great, Swell, Choir, and Pedal Organs.

The effect in the room is impressive, despite unusual acoustic issues: Three walls of the worship space open to the wrap-around lanai. Additionally, the organ was installed initially within a deep chamber, with expression louvers barely opening 1/3 of the horizontal.

The console for St. Clement Church was a new design for Austin Organs: Built upon our traditional, steel-frame concept, we designed a curved-terraced console, reminiscent of the French tradition, but uniquely Austin.

It is built of solid mahogany and features a black walnut rubbed-oil finish interior, 8-cut ivory keyboards, solid maple pedal keys, and a 100-level capture memory and control system by Solid-State Organ Systems, Ltd. The back of the console features marquetry by Frank Lerose, a noted artisan in the field. The inlay features seven types of wood, genuine mother of pearl, and 24-karat gold leaf. The design is from the headboard of Queen Emma Kaleleonalani, who brought Anglicanism to Hawai'i.
