An Episcopal funeral is a worship service that celebrates the deceased’s life and honors their spirit. It’s based on the resurrection of Jesus and the belief that those who die will be raised as well.

- Readings:Â Scripture readings are often from the Book of Common Prayer.Â
- Music:Â Hymns and other sacred music are often used.Â
- Eulogies:Â Eulogies are sometimes given by friends and family at a wake or reception.Â
- Communion:Â The service may include Holy Communion.Â
- Homily:Â The priest may deliver a homily that reflects on the deceased’s life.Â
Planning
- To plan a funeral, contact the parish priest.
- The deceased’s wishes may be reflected in the service.
- The service may be held within two to three days of death.
Purpose
- The service helps family and friends grieve and support each other.
- The service helps those left behind to celebrate the life of their loved ones.
- The service commends the deceased’s spirit to God’s care.
